This beautifully illustrated map is a world in two hemispheres with illustrations of heavenly creatures and some natural phenomena such as waterspouts, a rainbow, earthquakes, and Mt. Etna in Sicily erupting, which are simply fascinating. The author of the map is Johann Baptist Homann, a mapmaker from nowadays Germany. We added a stunning handmade wooden frame. The wood colour is a dark chocolate, matte finish that is simply irresistible. Title of the map is: “Planiglobii Terrestris cum Utroq Hemisphaerio Calesti Generalis Reprasentatio”

Circumnavigations of medieval explorers
Besides very appealing illustrations, Mr Homann packed the map with information on medieval explorers’ expeditions. In the 17th century, many brave sailors went on voyages around the world. Some of them circumnavigated the globe and their amazing undertakings are marked on the map. Homann included the known knowledge about Australia and New Zealand and added the paths of Tasman’s 1642 voyage and Magellan’s Voyage, amongst others. The size of the map in the photos is 126 cm x 105 cm (49" x 41"). However, you can select the size that fits your wall best from the drop-down menu. We are in love with this map! I spent a good amount of time considering what to hang on the giant wall over our giant mantel in our new house. This is the perfect fit. And SO beautifully made too. The colors are gorgeous. Now we just need to find somebody with a very tall ladder to hang it!
